Dr. Hammer taught at Lindhurst High School from 1975 to 1982. As music director at a new school, he was able to do all of the new outfitting for the marching band including purchasing new instruments, uniforms, and selecting the curriculum. With his efforts, Lindhurst had an over eighty member marching band that quickly became known as “The Big Red Marching Machine.” Dr. Hammer and the music students were able to travel throughout Northern and Southern California performing in numerous parades including the Rose Bowl! Additionally, his jazz and concert bands entered many competitions and received awards for their performances. Dr. Hammer brought in many guest artists to perform with the students and recorded records with them.
Presently, Dr. Hammer is the full time conductor at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. He is also a co-conductor of the Diablo Wind Symphony and conductor of the Concord Blue Devils Youth Band. He has earned numerous awards over the years and loves working with people and bringing the world closer to harmony though music making and education.
We are proud to honor Dr. Eric Hammer for outstanding service to our youth and induct him into our 2017 Hall of Fame in the area of Arts and Entertainment.
