Mr. Aaberg had sports in his blood from the beginning. After graduating from Marysville High School in June 1961, he went on to study and play sports at Yuba College. While there, he played baseball and basketball, moving on to Sacramento State, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and played baseball. In the summers, he played semi-pro baseball for the Humboldt Crabs and the Marysville Giants.
Many remember Mr. Aaberg spending countless hours in the gym and on the fields throughout the years in the MJUSD at both Marysville 1966-1975 and Lindhurst from 1975 to 2005. He was a coach and teacher at both schools, in addition to serving as the PE Department Chair and Athletic Director at Lindhurst High School. At Lindhurst, he was the coach of the baseball team from the spring of 1975 to spring 2000—building the program from the ground up as the school’s first ever baseball coach. The only years he took off from coaching at Lindhurst were to watch his son, Kevin, play baseball at Marysville High.
In addition to being inducted to the Northern California Sports Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Yuba College Hall of Fame in 2009, he was selected as a three-time Appeal-Democrat newspaper All-Area Coach of the Year in baseball and named Appeal-Democrat newspaper Coach of the Year in girls’ basketball.
Congratulations to Mr. Aaberg and thank you for your years of service and dedication to the students, staff, and community at Lindhurst High School.
