John Polney

Lifetime Recognition

Mr. John Polney first began teaching in the Marysville Joint Unified School District in 1971 and taught at Yuba Gardens Intermediate School until 1985.  He then joined the Mathematics Department at Lindhurst High School.  Along with his full time teaching, he served the students and the community members as a swim coach, lifeguard and swim instructor in Yuba and Sutter Counties.

Mr. John Polney is best known for his love of swimming which    began at an early age.  He swam while in college and then   continued this love by coaching and sharing his skills with the young people of Yuba County.  He has been the only swim coach at Lindhurst High since the school first opened in 1975 and continues to come in and coach the students even in retirement.  Every year, he takes care of the Swim Club duties so that the team can fundraise and purchase the necessary equipment for the upcoming year.  As soon as the season  begins, he can be found transporting students to Marysville for practice and meets where he works with the students on conditioning and improving their technique.   It is common for Mr. Polney to take on students who are non-swimmers and teach them how to swim thus creating another life-long swimmer.

We are forever grateful to Mr. Polney who has never let the school, staff, or students down.  Thank you for the endless hours that you have dedicated to Lindhurst High.
